Yirrikipayi (Crocodile)

Yirrikipayi (Crocodile) are important to the Tiwi people, not only because many of them inhabit the waters around the islands and estuaries of the Tiwis, but because they are also a family totem danced at ceremonies and events. The Traditional Owners of Wulirankuwu Country on which Milikapiti and Jilamara Arts sits are a larger family group that identify strongly with the Yirrikipayi totem, making it a prominant dance at ceremonies around Milikapiti.
