Mirningatinga are long neck turtles found in the fresh water wetlands of Melville Island. These spring fed waterways form rich ecosystems that run out into salt water estuaries and the iconic coast line of the Tiwi Islands. Paluwiyanga (Goose Creek) is an area is east of Mililapiti that is the homelands of the Bush, Brown and Wonaeamirri families. It is a popular hunting and camping ground for people living in Milikapiti and forms one of the biggest wetlands of the region. Some artists at Jilamara Arts often paint animals that they associate with this Country.
