Telstra NATSIAA 3D award winner | Colin Heenan-Puruntatameri

Congratulations Colin Heenan-Puruntatameri of Jilamara Arts for taking home this year’s Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards Multi-Media Category.

Colin is a central part of Wurrungura — Jilamara’s digital archive and multi-media centre and an amazing advocate for the use of new media technologies in celebrating Tiwi art and culture.

Ngirramini Ngini Amparruwu (The story of the widow) is a video projection with accompanying carved and ochre painted objects used in the Tiwi Widow dance. The work celebrates the performative foundations of Tiwi art-making and the important role song-lines and yoyi (dance) play in Tiwi story-telling and creative practice.
