This year due to COVID 19 restrictions on interstate and international travel, The annual Tiwi exhibition at Double Tree Hilton on Darwin’s Espanade will more a more informal Pop-up style event for the local Darwin Community. Instead of the regular exhibition of major new works, Jilamara and Munupi Arts from Melville Island will be bringing a range of new and older paintings of various sizes as well as limited edition prints, wood carvings and hand screen-printed Jilamara textiles.

This year due to the cancellation of the Darwin Festival and the physical Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, the Tennant Creek Bro will also be joining us in this indepenedant event for the local community of the Northern Territory. COVID and contact tracing conditions will apply during opening hours.

“Awurankini Jana Yimaninmarrampilya Ningani, Karluwu Ngini Ngawula Ngima” brings together several generations of Tiwi artists to display their works at an annual exhibition at the Hilton Double Tree, in Darwin.  With a colour palette of yellow, red and white natural ochres, the works on show demonstrate an exuberant visual celebration of Tiwi culture and art making. Despite the current crisis, the Tiwi artists demonstrate through the power of their art a resilience that is inspiring. This year due to travel restrictions, the annual exhibition will offer a pop up for those in Darwin and a selection of online content for those not able to visit.
