MILDRED LORENZO
Skin: Pandanus
Mildred Lorenzo is part of the Lorenzo family from Pirlangimpi (Garden Point) on the Western side of Melville Island. While she started school in Pirlangimpi, she finished her education in Milikapiti and has lived here ever since.
Over the years she has worked at the indigneous owned and governed Jilamara Arts and Crafts Association on and off making paintings with locally sourced ochres – these have included works that represent her own Jilamara (ochre body paint design) and the circular motifs of Kulama (the Tiwi coming of age ceremony).
Over recent years, Mildred has participated in group exhibitions, culture and community art projects through the art centre.
