Michelle Pulatuwayu Woody Minnapinni

Michelle Pulatuwayu Woody Minnapinni has developed her own jilamara / designs which she uses to express important Tiwi creation stories and representations of Country. She paints using natural pigments, which she collects, grinds and mixes by hand and applies them using the pwoja / ironwood comb. In addition to her painting practice, she also works in the weaving and making of Tiwi ceremonial ornaments like the marriwiyi / ceremonial pandanus skirt. 

Woody has also been involved in governance, leadership as the former President of Jilamara Arts and Craft. She is the current co-ordinator of the Muluwurri Museum. Woody holds a Diploma in Conservation at the Grimwade Centre at the University of Melbourne and is an alumna of the Wesfarmers Indigenous Leadership Program at the National Gallery of Australia.
