Mirningatinga are long-necked turtles found in the fresh water wetlands of Melville Island. These spring-fed waterways form rich ecosystems that run out into salt water estuaries and the iconic coastline of the Tiwi Islands. Paluwiyanga (Goose Creek) is an area east of Mililapiti that is the homelands of the Bush, Brown and Wonaeamirri families. It is a popular hunting and camping ground for people living in Milikapiti and forms one of the biggest wetlands of the region.
